It is funny how you can find the best resources in such common places. (wink) Today in Science we were learning the parts of a flower and how they grow. I am only in week 4 of this adventure and I have already learned that if we keep our noses in the books we can all get bored pretty quick.
Thankfully there are tons of things out there that can help with this. Some of it is getting outside and getting some hands on lessons. But as I learned today plans do not always work out! The rain took us in a different direction and my lesson was on halt. Then I had an idea. I thought a movie might be fun to watch. So after a bit of research I found what I was looking for.
I love the Magic School Bus. It was one of my boy’s favorites as well when they were growing up. I had wondered if any of it’s shows went along with what I was teaching on today. And I found this list that tells you the episode, what it is about, and the TOPIC. Which was so cool today! I saw that number 11 was on ‘Seeds’. Then read the description and it was spot on for what we were learning today.
Here is an example of what it shows:
|11||111||“Goes to Seed”||Seeds||Ronnie Krauss, Brian Meehl, Jocelyn Stevenson||Robby Benson||November 19, 1994|
|The class is planting a garden, but Phoebe’s plant is at her old school. The students decide to go there, but Phoebe is worried about Ms. Frizzle embarrassing her and her former teacher, Mr. Seedplot (Robby Benson).|
|12||112||“Gets Ants in Its Pants”||Ants||Jocelyn Stevenson, Kristin Laskas Martin, Brian Meehl||N/A||November 26, 1994|
|The class is going to make a movie about ants, and Keesha is the director. She finds an ant to be the star, but the ant runs away to an ant hill with hundreds of other ants, leaving Keesha increasingily frustrated at her inability to find an ant to serve as the focus of the movie.|
|13||113||“Kicks Up a Storm”||Weather||John May, Brian Meehl, Jocelyn Stevenson||N/A||December 3, 1994|
|Ralphie decides to call himself WeatherMan, but this angers Keesha who claims he is not. She tells him the heat is getting to him, which makes Ralphie angry; so he decides to prove his worth by creating a thunderstorm. After he creates it, things go out of control.|
Isn’t that neat? There are tons of shows that cover a variety of topics. And for young children this show is fun. Heck…I love this show! ha ha
Here is the link to the list if you want to check it out:
Well I hope if you stumble upon this it helps you on your teaching adventures in some way. If so I would love to hear about it. Drop me a line below letting me know. (wink) Have an awesome day!
